PARISH COUNCIL OF DOWN HATHERLEY
The Parish Council would like to place on record thanks to the members of the Steering Committee and everyone else who has contributed to the production and implementation of the Parish Plan. This is a major step forward for Down Hatherley and it will hopefully lead to an enhanced level of community spirit and involvement.

Roads.

The signage for the new speed limits in Down Hatherley and Frogfurlong Lanes is now almost complete. The Parish Council will be making use of portable speed indication signs during the coming months and it is to be hoped that this will have a positive effect on driver behaviour. We are not happy with the three different limits in Down Hatherley Lane and will continue to press the County Council to keep this under review. Although the 7.5 tonne weight limit is having some effect there is still evidence of it being ignored. The Parish Council is monitoring the situation and if there is sufficient evidence of the ban being ignored they will consider joining the lorry watch scheme operated by the Trading Standards Department. In this connection it would be of great help if members of the public could note time date and name of any suspect vehicle and pass this to the Clerk or a member of the Council. As a general guide any lorry with yellow and red hatching on the rear is over the weight limit.

Footpaths.

We are continuing to press the County Council to restore the footpath that ran from Frogfurlong Lane towards the A38. Although they are not fully convinced of the need for this path they have agreed to look at the matter again. It may be necessary for us to find volunteer labour to clear the vegetation to establish what is left of the original path.

New Housing.

It is obvious from the geological surveys recently carried out on land adjoining Frogfurlong Lane that there is still the possibility of major housing development in Longford and Innsworth. The Parish Council will continue to monitor the situation.

Parish Field.

Meetings have continued with representatives of the Parochial Church Council regarding the management of the two parcels of land in front of the church. It is hoped that the iron railings to the former glebe portion can be restored in the not too distant future.

Future Newsletters.

A copy of this Newsletter will appear on the Parish Council section of the parish web site. A new version will appear each time the web site is updated and we will continue to produce paper copies for distribution.
